SIGN (1):  Entrance sign on Crowdy Bay Road at Crowdy Head

Crowdy Bay Road runs north from Crowdy Head and is the southern entrance to the Mid North Coast's finest coastal national park

CROWDY HEAD from Crowdy Bay National Park

The Abbey Creek Road off the main Crowdy Head Road in the park is best at around 20kph in a family car, and 30kph in a 4WD vehicle due to rutting.

Unless otherwise noted, all roads shown here are generally suitable at or near 60kph for family cars, and locals in 4WDs are just plain scary, especially on good fishing days.  Please enquire locally as to recent rains, which can slow your progress a bit.

Driving Along Crowdy Bay

Below:  Taken at SIGN (2) on the map above looking south

Easily accessed by a family car, the recently upgraded road tracks through a variety of ecosystems including a serene tea-tree swamp (NUMBER 2 ON MAP ABOVE), the road well above the water with new concrete culverts maintaining the natural flow of the area, known since the 1800s as "Big Swamp".

The elevation increases and you'll come to the junction where the Coralville road takes off to the left, and you'll continue in the National Park along the Diamond Head road to the right.

(SIGN 3 ON MAP) WARNING:  Local larrikins love to change about this signpost, so use this photo (correct) as your guide!

And You're There!

You'll hit the park entrance station about ¾ of the way in, despite having been in the park for a bit (SIGN 4).

Stop and have a look at the information there, including some maps and some plaques to read to familiarise yourself further with the park, road and area.
