The Three Brothers Mountains are named after three aboriginal brothers, two of whom were slain and eaten by a witch. The youngest brother returning from a visit to his parents killed the witch and buried his brothers' bones on Dooragan (North) and Pjurrigan (Middle), and then killed himself on Birpai (South). The parents searching for their sons heard a voice telling them that each mountain held the spirit of one of their sones, and so the name the "Three Brothers Mountains" was perpetuated in the aboriginal community. This story has been retold by generations in the local Birpai tribe. |

Below: The new crosier of a tree fern near Jerry's Creek Road just in the park. A "crosier" is the hooky bit atop a bishop's staff used in church processions, hence the similarity with the new tree fern fronds! |

Below: In addition to Bangalow palm stands in most gulleys on the south and west faces, some faces of Pjurrigan (Middle Brother) feature mixed grass tree, cycad and tree fern forests |
